I suppose PC players can emulate in higher resolutions, but that applies to both consoles. What port you should play: No real differences. It's not perfect, but makes the game much more tolerable. It installs some HD textures, lets you switch from Xbox to PS/GC controller prompts, somewhat fixes stability (still 30 FPS with dips/stuttering though), and even fixes the outlines/shading. If you do play the PC port, be sure to grab the "Fix" patch. Aside from the boss, you'd probably get just as much enjoyment looking it up in a wiki/youtube video. I recommend emulating the GCN version and later downloading a save game for the PC/PS3 version to experience the additional end-game content (it's nothing major - casino minigame, cameo costumes/titles, a few mystic artes, and a different bonus dungeon boss). However, the Gamecube version feels better overall, especially since PC players can add widescreen support and an HD texture pack through emulation. The PC version is often on sale for ~$5, so if you want to throw Bamco so money, feel free to do so. The non-GC versions retain the additional content, but are less smooth. Some translation regressions and other bugs, some of which are still unpatched.

The manual book is added from the beginning. You can change the way Artes are pronounced in the menu, like transliteral or localized for exampple. "Phantasian Translation is the best IMHO. While the GBA version is official, the port quality is poor enough to outweigh any quality the translation may hold. If you want a bit more accuracy, I'd go with either PSX patch. What translation you should play: The only complete SNES translations I could find were DeJap-based, which, as I mentioned, is fairly inaccurate but fun. Not sure what the "DTE" in the description refers to - some sort of compression, perhaps? (Google has little results). Skits and spoken dialogue have subtitles.
